Proposal
The story starts of showing the backgrounds of the three teenagers changing to adulthood and they have this set motivated target of becoming “men”. Also it shows how they have come to be who they are and reflects their personality within the short flashbacks. The story unfolds as becoming an adult or coming up through youth, yet to know it isn’t as exiting or thrilling as these teenagers thought. We see the journey of 3 teenage college drop outs go on a night out in town and certain predicaments they get caught up in. The genre of the film is drama/thriller and to elaborate certain scenes shock the viewers and it’s that sense of realisation that appeals to the story. This short Film will appeal to lower class teenagers that live within the English/youth culture and thrive of individuality and “standing on your own 2 feet”.
‘Becoming Men’ Short Film Treatment
The story starts of showing the three teenage backgrounds and reflecting their personalities, with all 3 failing college they set out an experiment on the transformation from youth to “men” meaning how they act, basically analysing them. One of the three (Alex) is a rich slum who’s ego is as big as his pocket money, although considering that , he’s the brains of the organisation. His flashback shows how he goes through education with straight A’s until he gets to college when he gets introduced to drugs and the lacksidaisicle side of it. Marcus or “macca” another 2/3 has had a rough childhood and relies on humour to hide his real self, back when he was a kid his step dad physically and mentally abused him for years until court said otherwise...which leads on to less focus because he’s bin at a foster home since his step dad got sent down. And finally 3/3 is Ryan dolver the chav who relies on mum and has trouble with girls; his past shows the breakage of rules and constant stressing of individuals.
All three lads met at a local college and the thought of this experiment came from each one being kicked out and have one chance to show their work ethic can stay consistent. With Alex being rich his appearance is smart but untidy- ironic? And he takes up the opportunity on measuring movements and eye contact, for example when a man is on his own and speaking to a women his focus is all on the one girl , when in a group the girl is not the main focus.macca’s job is also to measure alcohol intake , how it effects and the similarities between drinking in a youth environment and drinking in an adult environment ig. Music, surroundings, drugs, after effects. Ryan dolver has the role of measuring attitude of young men and their approach to life (jobs, beliefs, family life) and relates to certain ways of how they act.
Although the focus is on them analysing other people, they start to figure out themselves and come across certain predicaments like fights, falling out, 1/3 concluding to death. The key moment in this story is when there experimenting in a club and maccas focusing on drunkenness and after effects of the people within the club, his drink gets spiked and suddenly his past comes to haunt him. With the other 2 lads desperate to find macca, their focus and attitude destroys the experiment and then focuses on getting their friend back.
